Founded in 1909 in Berlin as a steel trading company, Pierburg began to produce carburettors in 1928 and soon became virtually the sole supplier to all German automotive companies and many international vehicle producers and engine manufacturers. In 1986, the company was taken over by the Rheinmetall group.
